The Council

West Berkshire Council is a unitary authority responsible for the full range of local authority services.

It was created in April 1998 when we took on the provision of all principle council services for the area from the then Newbury District Council and Berkshire County Council.

Employing over 1,500 members of staff corporately, plus additional members of staff working across our local schools and education settings, West Berkshire Council is a large employer in the local area.

Our staff support the delivery of a wide range of services on behalf of the council, ranging from garden waste collection, housing and roadworks to caring for those in our communities, just to name a few. Without our hard working, dedicated staff we wouldn't be able to provide a host of different services to the community - everything we do is focused on:

  • Better educating our communities
  • Growing a stronger local economy
  • Protecting and supporting those who need it
  • Maintaining a high quality of life for our communities

Our values:

  • Fairness
  • Customer Focused
  • Integrity
