The scheme, which was developed in response to request directly from local residents, used a government grant to encourage active travel in the area by improving footpaths, building a new crossing and improving bus stops.

Making the district safer for walking, wheeling, and cycling is a key part of the Council's environmental commitments as it works towards carbon neutrality. The path in Stockcross and others like it across West Berkshire help people to get out and about so that they can improve their health and travel around without relying on their cars.

The team responsible for delivering this also works with other teams on other exciting active travel and carbon reduction projects, such as maintaining rural rights of way, installing flood alleviation schemes and rolling out solar panels across schools, resource centres and other council buildings.

By joining the Environment department, you too could play an important role in projects like this and make a meaningful difference to the district and its residents.
