April

Digital Services Apprentice

April joined West Berkshire as an apprentice straight after completing her A Levels in 2023 as she saw the benefits of earning whilst she was undertaking a qualification. The support she received all the way through the interview process and since starting in her role helped her to develop her skills and confidence as she came into the workplace for the first time.

"I would say that it's definitely a good step forward, especially if it's your first job. I think that's really helpful to work for a company that has such diverse services and diverse teams."

James

Business Analyst (Transformation)

James has been with West Berkshire Council for 18 months, having started out as an apprentice in our Digital Team. He found that the flexibility he had to balance his workload with his studies helped him to achieve his Business Analyst qualification and to successfully apply for a permanent role which makes the most of his new skills.

"Everyone I speak to or meet with have been super friendly and very helpful."

Dave

Emergency Planning Officer

Dave works in our Emergency Planning Team, having moved from across the country to West Berkshire. He has found that the diverse experience he has gained, the ability to work flexibly, and the scope to tap into the wide range of knowledge and support from his colleagues make the council a great place to work.

"Managers have been very supportive in guiding me in where to continue learning and where is best to read resources."

Lizzie Reeves

Lizzie

Transformation Unit Manager

Since starting my career at West Berkshire Council, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of local government functions, strategies, and goals, while actively pursuing my interests in related areas.

I began my journey at West Berkshire Council in 2012 as an assistant in the Accounts Receivable team issuing invoices, setting up payment plans and helping with customer queries. During this period I progressed within the team and I developed a deep knowledge of debt recovery principles and county court procedures. I also completed courses in debt recovery and team leadership, which enhanced my skills and prepared me for future career growth.

In 2019, I embraced a new challenge by moving to Digital Services, where I undertook an apprenticeship in Business Analysis. This role allowed me to explore my creative side and drive improvements in Council service delivery. I also obtained a PRINCE2 Project Management qualification, setting the stage for a Project Manager role.

I've taken part in various other activities throughout my career at West Berkshire Council, some highlights being part of the amazing team helping to distribute food parcels during the pandemic, and attending jobs fairs including facilitating mock interviews for pupils at local schools.

As of 2024, I apply the skills and experience I've accumulated over the past 12 years as the Transformation Unit Manager in the newly formed Transformation Service. In this role, I lead a team of Business Analysts dedicated to transforming the Council's operations and service delivery, both internally and externally.
