Shaw House is a Grade 1 listed Elizabethan mansion on the outskirts of Newbury and is an important part of the area's heritage whilst also being home to space which is used by the council's staff for team meetings and away days.

The on-site Community Garden has raised beds and polytunnels where fruit, vegetables and flowers are grown by members of the community. Amy supports those who take part to explore the benefits of being outdoors whilst learning, sharing knowledge, and getting to know others who share their interests.

Local children are also invited to enjoy the garden through Fun with Nature workshops where they can take part in nature walks, make bird feeders, learn about healthy eating and dig for bugs. These help to build healthy habits, confidence and social skills.

The Community Garden is one of a number of initiatives which forms part of the council's Nature for Health project. Nature for Health aims to develop and deliver green space and nature activities to promote and improve physical and mental health and wellbeing whilst reducing social isolation and loneliness. It does this by running events which help local people to meet others from their community whilst enjoying the district's beautiful natural surroundings.

Whether you are looking to make a positive difference to the local environment or want to work with local people to improve health and wellbeing, chances are that West Berkshire Council has a role that would suit you.
