People working in care often describe themselves as 'just a carer'.  Here at West Berkshire Council, we challenge that way of thinking. We do not believe that anyone is 'just a carer'. Our care staff are passionate, dedicated to the core values they have created to support our residents and customers to fulfil their potential and enjoy their lives at every stage of life, regardless of any physical or cognitive challenges they face.

As an employer, we are committed to provide the best possible career opportunities to all our care staff.  This includes comprehensive training to obtain the Care Certificate in your first three months of employment, access to other relevant training opportunities to help you grow in your role including specialist courses on topics such as dementia and autism, Mental Capacity Act plus access to QCF qualifications at all levels during your career.  More recently, West Berkshire has taken on an Apprenticeship Coordinator to ensure we make best use of a levy that is raised to fund apprentices. This scheme covers staff at all levels across the whole service. The scheme will can be used to fund QCF's, Degrees and ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) training to give just a few examples.

As an active partner within Adult Social Care, our care staff can be considered for opportunities across the spectrum of social care roles within the council. This includes roles in care management, care delivery specialising as a practitioner, developing into management roles or studying to be a qualified social worker or occupational therapist.

In return, we expect our staff to share our four core values; Respect, Inclusive, Compassion and Empowerment.  These drive our practice and are central to everything we do. They are core to our service delivery and we are looking for people who share those values to join our team.
